Omar Yunes is among the top Mexican Franchisees who have put Mexico on the international map of business due to his creativity and contributions to Sushi Itto. His efforts were rewarded when he won the Best Franchisee of the World (BFW). Omar Yunes represents the Japanese Food chain, a brand that he started working with on a franchise basis at the age of 21 years-old. Currently, Omar owns 13 franchise units all located in Mexico City, Puebla, and Veracruz. In fact, that is about 10% of all the units that the Japanese food chain owns.
The 2015 edition of the BFW, which were held in Florence, Italy were attended by participants from 34 countries, including Portugal, Brazil, France, Italy, Argentina, and Mexico. Some of the aspects that were being evaluated about various representatives included but not limited to the franchisee’s contributions to the network – not the brand – in regards to his or her influence on the network, implemented savings, technical contributions, employees motivation efforts, and the kind of improvement models that the representative has brought to the network.
According to Diego Elizarrarrás, who is the organizer of BFW in Mexico, Omar Yunes won the award because he has played a key role in changing the relationship between franchising and the franchisee. He commended Omar, who also won the national qualifier for creating better information management strategies and for implementing reliable control boards that enabled the measurements of every unit’s performance clearer.
